Ireland (Eire (IPA [e ? r ? ?]) in Ireland in Irish or English), is a country in Western Europe, member of the European Union since 1973. This is a republic which shares the island Ireland with Northern Ireland remained a constituent part of the United Kingdom. It is also one of six "Celtic nations". The country's official symbol is the Celtic harp (which appears on the euro coins), but the three-leaf clover is often used, particularly by the Irish rugby team. There are two official languages in Ireland. The constitution provides that the first national language is Irish Gaelic and English is a language Annex. However, English is a strong majority, and gaélique, although necessarily taught in school is no longer spoken fluently by only a few people, mostly in different areas of the Gaeltacht.
