Lithuania (Lietuva in Lithuanian), officially the Republic of Lithuania is a country in northern Europe located on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland and southern Latvia. Lithuania has approximately three million five hundred thousand inhabitants. The capital is Vilnius, its currency the litas, its official language is Lithuanian, Lithuanians its inhabitants. This country is the most southern, most populous and most densely populated, the largest and most tourist the three Baltic States. The Republic of Lithuania is a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004 and is part of the Schengen area since December 21, 2007. The spelling "Lithuania" (with an "h") is old; correct, it is nonetheless almost obsolete: to prefer "Lithuania". We still find the letter "h" in the name of the country in different languages where its presence is mandatory.
